Berliner Philharmoniker Violins
The Berlin Philharmonic Violins were founded in 1993 by Laurentius Dinca with the aim of enabling the public to enjoy the Berliner Philharmoniker violin section’s unmistakably rich sonorities and extraordinary virtuosity removed from the context of the other string instruments – as a “pure-violin experience”. The piano forms the sole foundation in the lower registers – on occasion also opposing the strings.
For their multi-faceted repertoire, the musicians draw on the rich resources of music history, aided by professional arrangers, but they also constantly invite contemporary composers to write new works for them. The “Philharmonic Strings” have now also established themselves in the rest of Europe and Japan as one of the orchestra’s most prominent ensembles.
Laurentius DINCA
Born in Bucarest, Laurentius Dinca received his first training at the music academy in Bucharest, following which a grant enabled him to travel to West Germany and study at the Musikhochschule of Lübeck. From 1980 Dincawas Konzertmeister in the hr-Radioorchestra before joining the first violins of the Berliner Philharmoniker in 1984. Among the chamber-music ensembles to which Dinca belongs are the Athenaeum Quartet, the Philharmonic Virtuosi and the Berlin Philharmonic Violins.
